The Krita team has just released version 2.8.0, a release that’s packed with new features and improvements. Most notably, Krita is now stable on Windows, it has a completely rewritten UI layer to improve the performance for tablets and the OpenGL rendering quality has been dramatically improved.

Fabio Russo’s Image Layer add-on is allows for layer-based image editing inside Blender, similar to Photoshop and the Gimp. It is progressing slowly but steadily. He just released an update with a ton of fixes and some new features. He is still collecting donations for the next step – importing and exporting to image file formats such as XCF (Gimp).
Autodesk has just announced the discontinuation of Softimage after a final release in April.
