Grease Pencil animation for UK charity

My partner and I run a small animation studio in London called OOF. We were recently asked to create a short information film for the charity Age UK. The imagery had already been created as part of a print campaign and we were tasked with bringing it to life. We decided that Blender's Grease Pencil would be perfect as it would allow us to replicate the vector style of the original illustrations. Adding the noise modifier to this would give us the animation boil, but in a way that we could carefully control it.

I've been using Blender on and off since 2007 as more of a hobby, my partner had never opened it. So I gave her a crash course and we got stuck in. Grease Pencil exceeded our expectations, the ability to sculpt and inbetween allowed us to add subtle movements. We even went as far as rigging legs for one shot.

We probably could have produced the entire piece in Blender, but opted to composite in After Effects and edit in Premiere as we're more familiar with them. But they were certainly shown to be the weaker elements; slow and too prone to crashing.

We may be producing a few more in the series and look forward to working more with Blender.
