Modeling for Animation 04 – Building the Hands!

In this video we construct the hands by considering the form and articulation of the fingers, thumb and palm. Once we build out the structure, we give it a bit of a test whirl with the rigify metarig then, We then re-attach the hand to the body and have some fun with mixamo!

This whole series has been great. What I especially like is that mistakes are left in as a learning example. It’s one thing to celebrate “happy accidents” , but it’s something else to point out one’s mistakes and own them. I respect that and cannot wait for the rest of this series. Thanks,Dikko!

I feel like as 3d developers, we need to rethink modeling. Why are we still modeling hands? In a hundred years, we will still be modeling hands. It doesn’t make sense. Hands should be treated like a commodity.
Not sure what you mean. What do you mean by “treated like a commodity” and what do you suggest should change about modeling hands?
There are packs out there that supply hand base meshes. The question is whether they are any good.
