Living Lava - Procedural Abstract Animation

4

An awesome abstract animation by NoviceInDisguise!

I have been working on some rather large projects recently, and was starting to get burnt out. So a couple of days ago I decided just to make something, anything really. See where creativity took me.

This artwork was made using complex procedural deformations and a completely procedural shader. Made entirely in Blender 2.76b and rendered in the powerful Cycles render engine.

The mesh is deformed using procedural methods, however a mesh this complex required a lot of data, so there is a total of 5,000,000 vertices (yes, that is five million). Using the revolutionary pointiness feature in Cycles, I was able to apply a different "cold" material to the outer parts of the mesh, and a "hot" melted inner core.

  1. More of this guys! All this focus on photo-real and the coolest things I see are usually something abstract and weird. Check out Lee Griggs on Behance.net and you'll be blown away.

  2. Fantastic. I agree with Jesse, we have the power to create the most amazing images and animations, and so often we just recreate something that exists or could exist in the real world. Let's do more of this sort of crazy stuff!
