Hey .. while I'm a touch disappointed it's not free free - the fact there IS a free version is fantastic. AND .. look at all the other city building software. Thousands of dollars.
I got UrbanPad ... but you know, for $21 this is 10x better. I bought me a copy. Great work!
Urban Pad is 149 US$ ...
Yeah, I know. Compared the two in price and I'm saying this is a heck of a lot better.
Hmm.... I'm getting a Server Not Found error from that link.
Really? I guess my internet is better than yours, then! ;-)
Must have been a temporary glitch. I can get to it now too. Thanks Bart!!
I fixed your internet. For free!
You're awesome :D
Do you also fix servers that are threatened by the BN effect?
;-)
SWEEET!!! I guess I owe you big now. I just can't getz along witout my internetz .... ;-)
Awesome tool, with a terrible name. Why would I want to think about killing myself every time I use it?
i believe it was named after a short film, the developer made.
No, it's named like that because it creates building so you can drop from the top of them. I guess.
haha
I hope nobody complains about the price. The free version still offers a good amount of features and even the commercial version is priced a lot cheaper than what I had anticipated.
So do I. I think it's great that people are building their businesses around Blender - adding to its credibility in the professional sector!
I know I appreciate it - and for $21 (or 15 EU) it's really a bargain. And the free version is feature rich enough as it is!
Awesome!
Why does nobody use OpenStreetMap as datasource? http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/3D_Development
I have just downloaded the free version. I am going to play a bit with it to see what it really what can do, I will evaluate props and cons of this script. At glance it seems a magnificent piece of software. 15 Euros is a quite affordable price, and very well deserved for its creator. If it works as promised I will be buying my copy right away !
This is an excellent development, particularly since there are both free and commercial versions. Strange as that sounds, if this product sets the standard for Blender commercial code as being both inexpensive (and this really is) and supporting the Blender Foundation (even with a nominal €1) as well as offering a free cut-down version then we are on to go a good thing.
Kudos.
I've installed the free version on Mac OSX, and it says Java OK (6.26), but when I click BUILD CITY I just get the spinning beach ball. Nothing happens. :-/
Maybe you need Bart Velduizen to fix your internet.
Yeah I get that too on my Mac, but on my PC it works fine. Not sure why that would be.
Could you join the thread and describe the problem, so I can fix it?

Thanks :)
Will do and did!
EDIT: I've updated Java to 6.29 but it still doesn't work. Blender just locks up and I have to Force Quit.
what build are you using, i can only get it to work on the official stable build. all mac graphicall builds do not work
2.60a from blender.org.
The 64 bit version.
Same story here roofoo. I tried it a few days and was met with... nothing :(
I was going to make a city tutorial with it, but until it works I can't.
Ok, I changed the city setting from 500 square meters to 200 square
meters, and then when I pressed BUILD CITY it actually worked. So maybe
my machine just can't handle larger cities.
Well, I tried on my home 8-core Mac Pro, which has 16 GB RAM, and the script still won't work. So there must be something with the Java that's hanging. You might want to look into that.
I may have found something, see you on BA.
Roofoo, I've replied to you on BlenderArtists.
Arnaud, you're awesome for helping out the Mac users! Certainly encourages me to buy your software.
Thanks Akexis!
Well, if I want to maximize interest and sales, I have to make sure all platforms are supported ;)
But above all, I want SCG to be useful and user-friendly. Still a lot of work.
Thanks to all those who take the time to report their problems with it!
What a terrible, insensitive and non-descriptive name.
I'd agree the name could be a turn off for some potential buyers. I almost didn't bother to see what the product was due to the name. But who knows..sometimes odd names of products work for one reason or another. :-)
I plan on checking this out in the very near future. Looks pretty good from what I've seen so far.
The full name is Suicidator City Generator.
I agree it's a silly name: it started as a joke among friends, and stayed, that's why.
Changing it, now that it's quite well known in the Blender community, would be ... suicide ... :D
At least it can't be forgotten ;)
Just to add to my admittedly short comment above - of course, you are free to do what you wish with the name. I just thought you might want to know that the name is creating controversy where none is needed. Try speaking to someone who is a suicide survivor, someone who's lost a loved one this way, or someone who's discovered a suicide scene. To a lot of your potential customers, it's *not* a joke.
I'm just saying - I judge any company I am about to do business with on any and all information I have about them, and a name that references suicide without having anything to do with it signals - to me - poor judgement, and not a company I would trust. It's a bit like jokes about Hitler or cerebral palsy. There might be a time and a place, but the title of a commercial, serious piece of software is not that time and place.
Trying to keep it constructive, I honestly don't think your brand is near strong enough that a name change would seriously damage it. I remembered your script from way back, but not the name. All this while I'd been thinking of it as "that neat Blender city generator". "City Generator" is the operative part of your software's title IMO.
All right, I'll shut up and reiterate that you should do what you like. Best of luck in any case, the software looks strong and I honestly hope it takes off so it's clear to everyone that procedural generation like this can be taken commercial.
If I were you I'd change it to just 'CIty Generator'. 'Suicidator' is just awful.
Agreed about the name ... skip that awful word pls
This beautiful script deservers better !
I see your point.
I never thought it would hurt people's feelings, and is definitely not meant to.
I'll try to think about it for my next products.
Thank you guys for the input and please do not feel offended in any way by the name.
Delighted to see commercial tools being made for blender. It's extensible software and we can't rely entirely on open source forever. Commercial tools are faster developed and will give us features we otherwise may not have gotten.
i Just paid for the full versin but i cant find where to download it and i didnt receive an email with th elink to download the full version wtf ?
While I agree that a name referencing suicide can be somewhat offensive, and I agree with TSA's comment above that I like to look into information with a company before doing business with them, I must say that the word "Suicidator" is silly enough of a take on the word 'Suicide', that I personally can tell that it was not meant to offend. It sounds like the type of word Arnold Schwarzenegger would say in a Terminator movie, before getting odd looks from the rest of the cast.
I've not downloaded it yet, but I certainly will try it out - and perhaps buy it. From the screenshots, it looks like an absolutely fantastic piece of software!
I downloaded the free version. I get an error just opening the zip file. Been looking for a good download
Finally got it into the right blender folder on Mac, but problem: while it shows up in the user prefs>>addons panel, I can't seem to enable it. I'm using v2.62 stable. Is that why?
