Great pic that is indeed. :) Nice use of compositing.
But even a simple, "heard that a million times already", story is still a story. Picture alone tells a thousand words already, but it's missing a context that even a simple story could provide.
Good job, dude! I think I've found my temporary placeholder splash screen for my Blender 2.57 until I create my own splash screen to replace it.

If you follow the link to the BlenderArtists thread, you'll be able to see the larger res image and it becomes apparent that the blue ship is much closer to the camera than the planet surface. At low res it is not obvious.
let our imagination tell the story.
