Node wizard Simon Thommes is hard at work on the Blender Studio's upcoming short film: Sprite Fright. In very Thommesian fashion, Simon is releasing golden nuggets of wisdom that have been mined during this process, most recently in the form of two new production lessons.

The two production lessons, earning two separate posts penned by Christian Bunyan on the Blender Cloud, pertain to Simon's Nodal area of expertise: The first one deals with the creation of distressed shading for characters, in which he uses painted masks and custom properties to control painted textures and their intensities.
