Blender's Big Projects For 2021

3

In a press release on Blender.org, Christian Bunyan shares some of Blender's biggest projects looming at the 2021 horizon, promising a momentous year ahead!

Some of the standout features to me are:

  • The EEVEE port to Vulcan, which plays a big role in future-proofing the groundbreaking render engine and opening the doors for potential ray-tracing support. EEVEE will also be getting reworked Depth of Field support in an ongoing push to making it a production-ready renderer.
  • Everything Nodes, the brainchild of Jacques Luckes, promises to make nodal workflows a reality in Blender, the foundations of which are already being laid with the outstanding work on the Geometry Nodes modifier.
  • Asset Browser as an editor window, the long-awaited Blender feature allowing for libraries to be built and accessed consistently, making dealing with large projects much more accessible.

The list goes on with other incredible features to look forward to, including

  • Continuing work on the VSE 2.0 overhaul
  • Further Cycles performance improvements.
  • Animation 22
  • Pipeline Development
  • Furthering USD support
  • Restructuring Blender HQ
