A cooler way to build realistic materials!
In the real world, seamless textures don't exist. Materials are made of layers: Age, wear, paint, dirt, damage, and all of the things that make real objects real.
In this tutorial, learn how to use procedural masked and layered materials to quickly populate your Blender scenes. This is an intermediate level tutorial about some quick and dirty material design with Cycles material nodes.

OP forgot to add the dollar sign.
I feel that is implied as soon as I add '[promoted]', no?
Not really. Promoted can mean "taken from lower in the list and raised up", not just as a promotion!
I too thought that it would be interesting, but hit the "must pay to view" wall.
Simply add the [$] next time.
I have to agree with Dave.
It would be very kind if you could add the Dollar-Sign next time :)
It just is way more obvious that way.
Non the less: Still thank you for providing all these links and keep up your great work :D
I suppose it's clearer yes, I'll add it :)
"In the real world, seamless textures don't exist. Materials are made of layers: ..."
Textures being seamless has nothing to do with materials consisting of layers.
And in the real world, all "textures" are seamless. At least in my everyday surroundings I cannot see any texture seams. Makes me wonder how the OP sees his world...
Interesting results, looking good)
