Should Blender ever start releasing new versions without packing them in a ready to instal package, I'll stop using it. I have seen many programs on Github that are not packaged and none have ever worked. If they are smart enough to write the software, they are smart enough to create an install. Way too much to read and understand for us mere mortals.
Blender is available in installation packages for windows, macos and linux..
You're looking at an unfinished piece of software in progress. This is for people who want to be at the absolute bleeding edge of things.
You can be *right behind* the bleeding edge if you go here: https://builder.blender.org/download/
which has something even simpler than an installer. It's a zip file that you can literally just unpack where ever you want and it'll work.
But you'll notice, that the builds there are from May 17th.
What the video describes is what you want to do if you want a brand new build from *today*.
But these other builds will be updated as well.
And once 2.8 is getting closer to being finalized (i.e. once it goes into release candidate mode), it'll also be released as an installer. Don't you worry.
Thank you for clearing that up. :-)
doesn't VisualStudio 2017 have Git aupport already included? (or at least as an extension you can install)
