Learn how to create a simple studio environment without using HDR images in this video tutorial by Nicholas Woelk.
HDRs have become quite popular with Blender users, and that is great. HDRs provide a level of lighting and environment detail you can’t get anywhere else. However, render times can get pretty high. Sometimes you just need a simple studio scene with interesting lighting to showcase your product, or visualise different lighting angles for character models.
So I developed this tutorial to show you how to create interesting lighting panels for your product or studio scene.

Off topic: The navigation below the news items does not seem to work. If I click on page 2 or 3 etc the first page is loaded. Am I the only one having this problem? I'm using firefox.
Thanks for reporting that. Could you try again?
Seems to be working fine again. Thanks Bart!
Thanks for the feature! A real pleasure.
You're welcome! Next time, just submit it to the site directly :) There's a big orange button on the homepage!
Hello.
Thank you for the tutorial.
May i say : brilliant !
Best.
I'm often guilty of just throwing on a HDR and being done with it, but the results from this look really good.
I'm glad it was helpful. I am also guilty of defaulting to an hdr. However, I dont need them for a new project I'm working on. So I did some research on studio lighting and developed these panels. Since I didn't find this information in any of the Blender outlets, I decided to create my first tutorial.
