Tutorial: How to Create Light Panels

8

Learn how to create a simple studio environment without using HDR images in this video tutorial by Nicholas Woelk.

HDRs have become quite popular with Blender users, and that is great. HDRs provide a level of lighting and environment detail you can’t get anywhere else. However, render times can get pretty high. Sometimes you just need a simple studio scene with interesting lighting to showcase your product, or visualise different lighting angles for character models.

So I developed this tutorial to show you how to create interesting lighting panels for your product or studio scene.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Off topic: The navigation below the news items does not seem to work. If I click on page 2 or 3 etc the first page is loaded. Am I the only one having this problem? I'm using firefox.

    • I'm glad it was helpful. I am also guilty of defaulting to an hdr. However, I dont need them for a new project I'm working on. So I did some research on studio lighting and developed these panels. Since I didn't find this information in any of the Blender outlets, I decided to create my first tutorial.
