Disqus problems on Chrome/OSX

30

Some people are experiencing problems loading the Disqus comments on Chrome/OSX. I'm working with Disqus on getting this resolved asap. In the mean time, other browsers (and a new Chrome Incognito window) seem to work fine.

Update: the only solution for now is clearing your Disqus and Blendernation cookies (see below)

Follow these steps in Chrome/OSX to remove your cookies (for me, 'last week' worked, but you may need to increase the period):

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. It's broken in my Firefox as well... but the same trick of creating an incognito window will fix the problem. Clearing my cookies for Disqus and BlenderNation and clearing my cache seems to have repaired the issue. Without the cache clearing that didn't work.

  2. I've been having the same problem with a few different sites. If you go into manage cookie blocking and add the site you're having trouble in, it also seems to sort the problem out.

      • Hmmm, I don't know if this will help, but taking a closer look at my settings, I see that block third-party was set on my machine by default- Anyway I was having problems with disqus, so after struggling for ages I clicked on manage exceptions and typed in the url- as well as adding "disqus.com" to the list. Anyway that sorted out the issue entirely or me.

I am on Firefox/Iceweasl, and I am still having trouble. The little circle spins, but the Disqus comments never come up. I have tried clearing all Blendernation and Disqus cookies, plus a whole load of others.

The only way I can get it is by opening a new private-browsing window. So clearly it is a cookie problem.

  4. Hey everyone. It appears that some browsers are caching an older, incompatible version of Disqus, which is leading to the "infinite spinner" situation you've encountered. As the article mentions, you can solve this by resetting your disqus.com cookies, which has the side-effect of resetting the browser's cache of content from disqus.com. (You can also just clear your browser cache.)

We're currently re-evaluating our caching rules to ensure that this won't occur again in the future. If you have any questions or feedback, you can always reach our support team at http://disqus.com/support.

  5. Why does my Computer stop working whilst Disqus is downloading? has anyone else noticed this? and is there anything I can do about it?

        • When I open a page on a Telegraph web site for instance, as it is finishing the download it stops reacting to the cursor, I can move it but nothing happens, and the information at the bottom of the page tells me that Disqus is loading something, when that stops I regain control of the page, also if the page is slow downloading I sometimes get a blank white page comes up from the bottom of the screen
