Yafaray is planning a code sprint in the second half of 2012. Right now, they're looking for a location to house the team and for donations.
From the Yarafay website:
This year we are going to organise a code sprint for developers of the YafaRay project. The main purpose is to motivate and support a new generation of developers who are doing a great work on YafaRay and the exporters, and at the same time to keep past developers on the loop. Our target is that it takes place in Europe in the second half of 2012. The sprint is open to any past, present and future developer of YafaRay. We will use our project funds and donations to help developers with travel and accomodation expenses.

Best of luck to the Yafaray team, this is great news. It's so hard to find fully functioning versions that match recent versions of OSX, I miss you Yafaray:)
Too bad there's not some extra room at the Blender institute, that would be epic! Nothing like some serious face time to get things done, and quick.
I love Yafaray. I'll see if I can do something this week. :)
goodluck!
Yafaray is the best!
Finally some news from Yafaray!
Hope we'll see a 0.1.2 release soon.
Comeinandburn,
I've been waiting for a working Yafaray for Blender in OS X as well, and now we have a very nicely working beta 3 available!

Just download it and install the zip as an addon and enable it. :)
Cheers
Been a mainly Lux guy myself, but I would be happy to chip in to support a great renderer that I have found useful a few times :)
Just a tiny correction: "From the Yarafay website:" (Yarafay?)
I was wondering... please don't take this as me trolling... why would a Blender user not want to master Cycles and just bypass Yafaray? Looking for reasons, mostly since Cycles is so little talked about.
Just thinking it'll be more exciting if we have many option which is the best tool (faster, easier, little memory consumption, etc) while waiting Cycles more mature.

Well for one Yafaray got multiple Global Illumination algorithms like Path Tracing and Photon Mapping (w. final gather), and several more in the experimental builds. Cycles only have pathtracing, and stuff like caustics are way more efficient with Photon Mapping!

I guess you don't visit blenderartists.org? :D
