Fake Sinkhole created with Blender

Andrew Price writes:

In a little prank to the blender community, I posted this video without revealing it was made with Blender.

Most blender users were smart enough to call fake, but a couple were fooled. What I didn't expect was that it would be featured on 5 conspiracy/doomsday blogs as real :/ I've since updated to the video description to remove any further confusion.

I also created a tutorial which you can watch here.

  1. Nice job! It's very good in every aspect, congrats!
"What I didn’t expect was that it would be featured on 5 conspiracy/doomsday blogs as real" - Oh my God, this is so funny! :D

How long will it be before this sort of thing gets sent to the TV stations, who then dispatch a news crew all ready to report live in prime time from the site of the “disaster”, only to discover that there’s nothing there?

And we need a word for this. We already have “shopped” (short for “Photoshopped”) for fake alterations to still images, what should we call it when we fake alterations to moving video?

  3. Looked real to me, very nice work indeed. And I´m a seasoned 3D modeller going on the 16th year of modelling now, fooled me! ;)

You even bothered to imitate the surrounding soil color, perfectly plausible scenario. Well done!

  4. It would be an interference in Korean internal affairs to have an opinion about sinkholes in that country.
Having dug a lot in my life, I would not have believed it if you said it was one in my country.

  5. It was a good use of the camera tracker, but better still Andrew did a tutorial on the very same - I know Andrew gets a lot of praise, even though he says "erm" a lot, he still manages to explain things really well and makes you feel a lot less stressed trying new techniques - nicely done! ;)

Of course now you claim this was made with Blender, but we all know it's a conspiracy to cover the imminent sinkhole doomsday.

  7. Okay, I'm certainly now expert, but the whole looked real to me.
The relative position of the hole to the storm drain, however...
So, where is one of these spoofed doomsday blogs?  I could use a laugh.
