I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

How come all sorts of poor-quality models get up on Blendernation, but the really great stuff is rarely mentioned?

    • No; the LDRAW models are generally used for CAD, and as such their topology is terrible. As to other cool stuff, Blendswap has plenty of awesome stuff. I subscribe to Blendswap via RSS, and there's something jaw-dropping every week.

      • Ah, I see. Yes, their topology is *very* terrible, I'm trying(attempting) to re-topologize one(Minifig), and rig it, taking forever >.< :P

  3. Wow. I had to do a double take when I saw that this was on Blender Nation. This was the first 3D project I did way back in 2009 for a course I was doing. We were supposed to be using Light Wave, but since I didn't have the money or the time in class I decided to use Blender instead. Haven't looked back...
