Alex Telford from Metalix.co.nz published a tutorial about how to create custom Freestyle modules to better fit your non-photorealistic rendering need.
this is great, and alex is great. I think the name of the article is a bit off though. i don't think this is about creating custom style modules. it's about using existing modules and also about layering them. "Using Freestyle python style modules" or something like that is more accurate. i though i saw also some tutorial on using the parameter editor on the internet too. if not i could make one, but i consider that more "custom" than anything.
I hope blender will develop the existing Edge setting which so much easier the use in the existing workflow.
Add some curve and other effect
I have tried Freestyle does not really work well for a complex scene.
Will this eventually make it to the main Blender built?
Something tell me that it wont.
This video seems familiar to me. I would had sworn this was posted here before.
It would be great if Freestyle were more refined and had a more user friendly UI. In my experience, Freestyle has provided me with pretty lackluster result. Either I end up with something pretty bad or nothing at all. Oh well...
The video is from part 1
which was an introduction to freestyle I made a while ago,
You will want to visit the link to view the actual tutorial using python, (it's a text tutorial)
Hope this clears that all up :D
(Though that video has received a few thousand plays today so like a double feature for me :P )
Great minds think alike. Spooky coincidence though since I was just about to post a blend file on blend swap with just the same thing.
A while back I was testing out Freestyle and playing around with the python code of the style modules to see what new 'styles' I could come up with.
I was mix n matching code from one style module and putting it into another. Altering stuff in the shader list.
(colour/thickness/shaders) Pretty basic stuff. but I could never figure out the other code with out going cross eyed.
Thanks for posting this. You are awesome.
PS. I love the new parameter editor in Freestyle, but there are some things that can only be done in python that you can't done in the parameter editor (just yet)

Hey guys,
I know this post may seem a bit deceiving, but the link under "Tutorial:" is the link to the actual tutorial part 2 http://www.metalix.co.nz/tutorials/blender/other/freestyle/create_module.php

Forgot to mention this before, but I was able to use an external text editor to change the pthon code.
