I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Bahasa Malay:
Ini kelihatan hebat!Saya berharap masyarakat Blender menyokong anda dan budak Perak, dan bahawa anda berkongsi dengan Ton apa yang boleh diperbaiki dalam Blender.Saya ingin anda banyak kejayaan!

    English:
This looks great! I hope the Blender community supports you and Perak boy, and that you share with Ton what could be improved in Blender. I wish you much success!

  2. This show could use a lot of work. The over all feel of the short is similar to that of 3D animation in 1993. The animation is floaty and slow in a lot of places. Good luck in the rest of your film making

  3. well. As long as that video wasn't a finished result then OK. I just hope you guys employ a good foley artists. The windows 95 desktop sounds are not cutting it.

  4. I definitely agree that a lot of work is needed, not just in the technical field, but also in the story telling department. Hey, you Malaysian animators are competing with 'Upin & Ipin'!!

  5. I think in terms of this being an animated SERIES the quality is pretty good plus it'll only get better as more episodes are made. I'd say the thing that bothers me most is the lack of attention to audio. For the opening where the child is exploring the factory, there is no sense of where the camera is located in the sound-space of the scene (getting louder when the camera is closer to a particular machine for example).

the motivations for why they turn the boy into a super-powered robokid are unclear. I am wondering if this series is inspired from Astroboy at all. In that film and series they had no choice but to turn him into a robot. However, in this story he seems totally fine after 11 months and simply walks into the crazy centrifuge. Maybe we should get a chance to hear his views on this? Is he being forced to fight or does he want to do it? If he DOES want to, why?

I don't know if this feedback will ever actually reach the development team but I thought I'd share my thoughts.
Nice work, I especially liked the slow-motion sequences.

    • Thanks! Asharf@Perakboy is the only son to Dr. Saidon! Ashraf@Perakboy is not totally damaged by the silver (perak in Malay). Dr. Saidon is a specialist in bio genetic meanwhile Dr. Zee is a specialist in bio tronic. Both of them invented the transform machine as well as make Ashraf@Perakboy into a super-powered robokid. Perakboy mission is to protect the land of Lenggong, Perak from being damaged by Prof. Kaloot.

  6. there's still things to do with the texture, material and cleanliness of the mesh. you need more talented artist and better hardware. btw, its still a good start.

  7. please bare with me for a minute. I liked your devotion to getting this up and running. Just some criticism based on my first impressions of this film.

I agree with most people here. Animation really needs refinement if this is going to air. Second, I too felt confused over the reasons for our hero to be turned into a robot. Does the suit stop the silver from hitting his vital organs? (if so then it is too Ironman-ish), the conversion of him from boy to robot was clearly inspired by astroboy, but confusing why it was in there...

there was a lot of Jeff lew style animation sequences in there which added impact but they characters generally lacked weight (if you don't have jeff lews videos best to check them out. They are old, but still timely) and gravity seemed almost non existent at certain points. IE Camera falling...

In the credits I think I picked the problem to some of the above problems... Too many directors and not enough workers. As the saying goes too many cooks spoil the soup. You have a great product with excellent sets. reasonably made models, and a possible good character to work with, just many points need to be addressed before it be worthy for public viewing.

Still looking forward to seeing how you progress on this... fun times ahead. :)

  8. Whew. A big problem with blender is that it gets used by novices ALOT. It doesn't do the program any favours to see people praising sub-par work. That's how the comments started, but I'm glad to see at least some of you have good standards.

  9. Alex Delderfield on

As mentioned above, theres definitely room for improvement. Some models are high quality (the camera) but others are lacking (the main character), animation needs a lot of work and the sound design is possibly the most lacking part.
