Tutorial: Making a airliner in blender 2.5 - part 1

27

Peter Haigh posted on Vimeo part on of his airliner modeling tutorial. For those interesting in learning how to build planes out of individual mesh objects, this might be an easy to follow approach with pretty decent results.

  1. I hate these videos where I can barely understand the speaker because he's not an native English speaker. How about overdubbing the voicetrack?

    • I agree he is a bit hard to understand but I think there is another reason, it sounds like the poor guy has a wicked cold ;-)

  2. I totally agree with Olaf. It is the reason why I have not made any video tutorial myself so far. I am French, and even if my written English and understanding of spoken English are not too bad, I'm rather slow at speaking. i also tried synthetic voices by AT&T: they are good, but require a lot of work as the text has to be written and the whole process require a good synchro and so a long video/sound editing process.

I am used to Andrew Price tutorials. Andrew speeks fast, but his accent is convenient for me, and he is very understandable. I am really sorry to say that in this modelling tutorial, I have understood very few of the sound track...

  3. Hi, I can't watch the vid cause it's showing me No mobile version and doesn't give any link to the vid..
BTW, it's the first time I see this error..

  4. Wow.. you modeled so much and DIDN'T EVEN SAVE IT until near the end! Bold move... and lucky you didn't crash...

This tutorial was quite easy to follow, although you could work on your pronunciation. I think I was only able to understand everything because I have spoken and heard a lot of English in my life.

I have a question tho, isn't it a bad modeling method to break the plane down into its individual parts and model them separately, since the mesh topology doesn't actually connect which makes it hard to have smooth transitions from one part to another and to have textures flowing over it smoothly as well? Or was this only a rough “sketch” of the plane and in part two you are going to create a single mesh that connects everything with a fitting topology?

  5. @ Olaf: not native English speaker?

  6. Wow more community arrogance here - complain about others doing something for free.

Stop complaining and do it better if you dont like it.

Hate is really a strong word in this context.

  7. Roubal, it occurs to me that if you found someone who spoke English and French, you could have that person dub your tutorial in English while you produce the French version. I'd be willing to dub for you, but my French isn't even up to tackling a decent restaurant menu, so you'd have to give it to me in English anyway.

  8. Great thanks !

btw i will really appreciate if you can make a little tutorial for modelling and texturing runway/taxiways ... etc

i have some troubles on how to UVmap such larges surfaces, and all the differents decals that may be on the ground

    good day to all

  9. Dude, love it.
What is really funny is a Russian guy on blender guru says now he cant understand americans because he watches so much blender guru(Australian accent Lol!)
I can understand any English accent no problem, as I grew up watching English TV shows here in Australia.
