David Ward has published a 26(!) part follow-up videotutorial to his Johnny Blender series.
David writes:
With the moderate success of the first Johnny Blender series, I decided to do a "sequel" of sorts, this time going for a more realistic approach akin to the Blending Life challenge. I started this one off with a basic "intro to 3D and Blender" so that (hopefully) anyone could pick this up and benefit from it in some way or another.
Using Blender 2.54, the series covers box-modeling a realistic head (myself as reference) from photographs, then sculpting detail with the new sculpt tools. We then go into projection painting to create a texture map using the actual photo references, set up SubSurface Scattering for the skin, create particle hair (head hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, and beard/whiskers), and model a jacket and use techniques in Gimp to make it look like leather. Going on, I show you how to create a basic rig setup for the face so that you can move it around and give it different expressions.
Youtube Description:
Johnny Blender 2.0 - Second "Johnny Blender" tutorial series that covers the creation of a photo-realistic head/bust from start to finish, using only Blender 3D and Gimp. This series is geared toward the beginner to intermediate Blender User.
You can watch Johnny Blender 2.0 on YouTube, or you can support Dave by ordering it on DVD for a little over €20. The DVD is full of high-rez video files, plus all supporting files (.blend files from each episode).

I think this is a GREAT SERIES of tutorials!!!...@Dave Ward > thank you so much for teaching us in such an efficient way man!
I'm in love with you man! OOps! X) Awesome work, would love to support you for this :D
What are you teaching ??? The whole head model is terrible - mainly his hair. - This tutorial is perfect for showing how we don't create a character head....terrible man, terrible....
Wow Great work!!!
Is there any way I can pay u and download it from the net? you know like the tutorials from cgcookies?
Congrats on this David! Your a tutorial factory man!
@ Sonny Picasso, thanks for your positive input, I look forward to your tut series, it will surely blow this out of the water.
Usually I don't feed the trolls, but Sonny Picasso, people buy tutorials for what it's worth, learn what they can, combine it with other training materials, add it to your belt of experience. Worst come to worst, just see what you can learn for what price.
I never thought Blendernation needed a troll/spam button. Never until I met Sonny.
Anyways, Dave I'm always happy to see any work you post cause it makes my day. Thanks for the continued hard work. It kinda looks like a young Bruce Willis. :)
Looks scary.
@Eyal:
i'm working to get a digital download version up as well; however, Lulu's FTP doesn't seem to like me very well for some reason :P
what format does the dvd come in? is it just the video files that you can play on a computer or is it an NTSC dvd? I ask because I'm in a PAL region, and there's no indication on the lulu page.
@moley: the dvd is a data dvd, so no PAL or NTSC to worry about. the videos themselves are mp4 format; you can either look at each one individually (VLC player should play them fine), or there's a built-in player on the interface i put together for it.
Also, the digital version is also available for download now (only videos and support files, tho, no interface):

Dave: Your link to lulu.com to order the DVD isn't working for me (times out). Is there another link?
@sbrowne: seems to work ok for me; if you can get on lulu.com at all, just do a search for johnny blender and it'll show up there. if that doesn't work, you might try IE instead of firefox, or firefox instead of IE.
