Review: 'Johnny Blender - The Complete Series'

3

Johnny-BlenderTerry Wallwork reviews Johnny Blender, a 'Twenty-Eight part series on the complete creation of a character in Blender, from a single polygon to a fully-rigged and textured character. You can either watch these tutorials for free on YouTube, or order a DVD - for each sold DVD, a donation will be made to the Blender Foundation.

Terry writes:

I have had a peaceful time recently, so I was getting a little restless and was looking forward to reviewing another Blender product and as luck would have it I found out about a DVD produced by David Ward called 'Johnny Blender - The Complete Series'

This DVD goes through all the steps from beginning to end that are needed to produce a fully modelled, textured, rigged and animated character model. The DVD is useful for both Blender Newbies and Blender Intermediates. From a starting cube Mr Ward goes through the basics and introduces many new features at a regular rate.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Wow Terry, Always working hard for Blender !
    I'm your fan !
Thanks for the help in wiki too ! ;)
Congrats, may be I can buy one in Brazil...

  2. I'm glad that David's DVD is back up on the Blender radar. I've had my copy for several weeks and I LUV it! I give this DVD the *highest* marks. It's easily one of my top 3 Blender references and the price is a STEAL! I'm comfortable saying that, for character animation, this is the the best reference/training material you'll need to quickly learn how to produce a professional product using Blender.

  3. Fabulous series. It is very interesting to work with the subsurface on from the start. I started with youtube and ordered the DVD, looking forward to seeing the technique and settings in better definition. However. Lulu failed me. Nothing arrived. Back to the youtube. Good news is that I got a full refund from Lulu.
