About the Author

Bart Veldhuizen
I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

The title of the page has a rather funky spelling to it. Should be VictoRy.
Speed is good!
No, it shouldn't :) Old Not a Number in-house joke, check the picture with this post :)
Question to Bart: What are the advantages that visitors will get from this migration?
(lower latency? better up-time?... etc)
I share Hedge's question.
@Hedge: we were running on old hardware (2years+), so I'm expecting better reliability and performance in the short term. On the long term, we also moved from PHP4 to PHP5 which means we can use a few newer WordPress plugins that I've been eyeballing for a while now.. Wait and see :)
Congratulations :)
This site is even getting better ?!?

Looks like Bart's been using those spare potatoes to make moonshine again...
The speed of the site seems much faster to me!
on a different note, blender nation links is coming along great!
Keep up the good works!
New selvel.
Good wolk, Balt!
I knew this was a Samurai Showdown 4 reference just from the title, I must have dumped 100 bucks into that blasted machine! More money into SS2. Genjuro rocks! And hooray for your success.
Horray!!! Them potatoes are running hot!!! Woot!!!!
Nice work, Bart.
Congratulations. You are truly victolious.
I should get to bed now.
But I'd like to just quote what Einstein said.
"Try not to become a man of success, but a man of value.".
You're a man of great value. ;)
Ahhh the amazing success one can achieve, both in servers and Samurai Shodown. We have achieved VICTOLY! ....and also, ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US! (連邦政府è»ã®ã”å”力ã«ã‚ˆã‚Šã€å›é”ã®åŸºåœ°ã¯ã€å…¨ã¦CATSãŒã„ãŸã ã„ãŸã€‚)
Bart: Seems like for some people your sens of humor is to complicated... I am reffering to recent potatos and Victoly jokes:) Anyway... Conglatulation for miglation!!!
So what Power Sauce got the new gadgets running??
The poor BBB rodents are now in a hamster wheel someplace aren't they? Face it, steampunk may be cool looking but it'd never meet Kyoto goals. ;P
Gotta love it when the server downtime results in a good victoly...
On my own computer I haven't noticed much differences but on school it loads much faster!
I haven't noticed any differences on my own computer, but here at school the site loads faster etc. Though I can't see the larger version of the image ^^
Conglatulations to the new, working server :)
Content caches are now also back up, so the site performance should be a *lot* better for everyone!
Bart is following in the steps of Blender.
Soon he will start numbering the site's version.
Blendernation 2.49 has been released !
Let's wait for Blendernation 2.50 now... (live up to the hype !)
The potato's power!
Congratulations!
One small thing I just noticed, in the sidebar it says:
0 tutorials, downloadable models, textures and more!
I'd say there are quite a few more than zero ;) (I don't know if the number was already zero before the server change)
Firefox 3.0.10
funky spell-check behavior. victoLy! hehehe.. :P Played that game for some time, too...
You guys also gonna use gzip? Saves bandwidth (and is often faster).
Ei! Samurai Shodown :D
Great! Yet another improvement! LINKS IS SUPER!
Hi,
When I try and view http://www.blenderartists.org using the Mac OS X version of Mozilla Firefox (3.0.10) I get a pop-up Authentication
Required message which says
A username and password are being requested by http://blendserve.blendimages.com. The site says:"Default"
This didn't happen before the migration. I can view the site fine in other browsers and using the windows version of
firefox.
cheers
@thing1thing2: wrong site, this is BlenderNation, not BlenderArtists.
@Lars: yes, I'm looking into serving zipped content. It currently interferes with our caching though so it'll take a little time to fix.
@Crouch: fixed, thanks for reporting it!
Samurai Showdown ftw! :D
