The Blender.org gallery hadn't been updated since April 2006. It used to be my task but my work for BlenderNation simply took too much of my time. The crowd was getting restless...
Fortunately Groo [Fweeb on the forums] stepped in and offered his help. Groo was a member of the SIGGRAPH boothcrew and gave some really cool fluid demos there. He created the Firefox commercial in Blender and also organised a Blender workshop for teens at the Red Hat summer tech camp. We figured busy people like that can always handle a bit more work ;-)
Anyway, enough about all that. Hurry to the updated gallery and start enjoying the art there!
Groo: I think you did an outstanding job on the new page and I'm thrilled to see new art appear there! Thank you.

Unfortunately, a hard drive crash had taken out a whole bunch of submssions from the time between April and now, so there's really no good way of salvaging those submissions and posting for those months. We made a call for submissions on the forums at blenderartists.org for this month's update. Might as well start fresh from here and keep the gallery up to date from this point forward.
By the way, while doing these updates do take some time, it's really a lot of fun. I miss out on seeing a lot of the finished work on the forums, so this has been a great way of seeing the work of some really incredible Blender artists that I might otherwise not have seen.
Fweeb might announce here and frontpage of blender.org, a thread at blenderartists can easily be overlooked.

Excellent!!!
Great to see an update of the gallery.
....and again great work shown, its a pleasure to see this different styles and the quality.
See the gallery and you see whats possible with blender!! :-
Wouldn't it be a better idea to make a the gallery submissions done dynamicly?
Like everyone can post a render, then people can vote, and the one with the most votes get's automaticly into the gallery database?
Anyways, very cool artwork has been added to the gallery, I always enjoy looking at those nice renders. :)
Trully amazing.
Great!
But Bart...
Is sad... there is not area for povray and others render engines.
Because blender can use Povray (using blend2pov or povanim), kerykethea?, sunflow, etc.
Maybe a extra area, will be good...

sorry my eng :(
FINALLY I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR MONTHES FOR THIS I WAS GETTING KINA WORRIED
Madman, there can be a section for other renderers as well. Currently, however, all of the submissions I've seen have been rendered in either Blender internal or Yafray. Of course, those are also the only two renderers listed on the submission form. However, that shouldn't stop someone from submitting work rendered with a different renderer and then using the Comments field to explain which renderer they used.

for some reason i have doubts that it would work out.
power to the people is ofcourse good, but.. i dont know. i fear it would lead to a gallery of not so top notch art.. don't know why.. just a feeling.

it's just incredible what you can achieve with the internal renderer!!! we all know how good yafray is, but the internal... wow! i've been really impressed by Cerica's field, and most of all i enjoyed the works of sago, and wonder how can he obtain that wondreful skin shader internally???
Incredible, the quality of the images. I'm very, very impressed of the abilities of the Blender community. The quality is the same, and some even better than professional artwork!
So, to the Blender community in general: Keep up the good work!!!
Good seeing the gallery updated again! What a bunch of great artwork! I'm marvelled to see my image at the top of this thing, considering the great artwork everybody else has done!
I'm very grateful to even be in the gallery along with the best blenders out there!!!
I'm just a fan boy of all you guys! :)

Heh, thanks for updating that. Makes Blender look much more professional. I was surprised that I'd only seen half of the works posted- I spend a lot of time on the forums.
Always good to see the new updates. I don't always get a chance to scan the forums for the art that is there. And a lot of times I find things that aren't even on the forums. Yay :)
Blender's picture go more more "pro".
The gallery is truely beautifull, 5 stars for the management of pictures size ;-)
IMHO "Prince Serg's Toy" should be in the gal!
