Blender Month: A for Anamorphic

2

BlenderMonth is already generating some great content. We're starting off with A :)

I participate to the BlenderMonth organized by my friend Julien Duroure. The idea is to post an article everyday for the month and following the alphabetical order. I'll try to do my best and write some articles to provide contents for the challenge.

So we start with the letter A and I've chosen the word Anamorphic as it is a new feature in Blender. Anamorphic bokeh will land in the upcoming 2.72 release and is already available in the main branch of the development version.

For the need of the Gooseberry open project, director Matthieu Auvray asked for a new feature that would improve the cinematic look of the film : anamorphic bokeh. First, what is bokeh ? Bokeh comes from a japanese word "Boke" which means "blur" or "haze" and corresponds to the way cameras render distant points of light that are out of focus. Nowadays, bokeh is widely used as an aestetic and creative tool for filmmakers, photograph and CG artists.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
