Sergey Sharybin Joins Blender Foundation

37

This news just came in: Sergey Sharybin (the GSoC developer who works on the already immensely popular camera tracking module) will join the Blender Foundation as a part-time developer. Ton Roosendaal writes:

I'm really happy to confirm that Sergey accepted a part-time job (30h/week) to work with Brecht, Campbell and me on general Blender tasks. It is partially to wrap up his SoC project, but especially for all the other jobs that keep lying around, like patch reviewing and bugtracking.

He'll start September 1st, at least for four months now. If things work out well, his contract will be continued to be part of the Mango (open movie) developer support team.

Welcome Sergey! :)

TOTALLY deserved! Congratulations Sergey!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Congrats Sergey!! I've followed your videos for a few months now and I've been impressed by your skills in programming and artistry.

  2. It's good to, as I notice that more people are needed to work on bug fixing (it keep staying 4 at pages long). More hand is needed to getting it reduced (and work on the old bugs).

  3. to coin a phrase

'The future looks bright, the future looks Blender'............. that perhaps was a fail....

    cooooooool news.

  4. Great news. Seems to me like a great addition to the in-house BF dev team. Especially as it looks to me like he knows his way round blender code very well. :D

  5. Congrats Sergey...your work has certainly caught the attention of the community (much credit also to the lib-mv guys).Nice move Ton! Now go and hire Wenzel before he is snapped up by Autodesk :)

  6. It must be especially gratifying for Sergey considering the number of people who were saying that integrating lib-mv into Blender was too large a project to realistically be possible in a GSoC timeframe... That's showing the doubters Sergey! Congratulations! :D
