Free Textures @ cgtextures.com

gorilla0008_s2.jpgHere's a site that has a very good collection of high resolution and FREE textures. All of the textures where taken by the sites author so there’s no question of ownership. Animals, furs, wood metals and many more. The animal pictures are good enough to use for reference material as well.

Many times there are hidden terms what free really means. From the website: "You may not sell or distribute any of these textures, use of these textures is only allowed under the following conditions: Private or commercial use in 2D or 3D computer graphics. Selling 3D models bundled with modified versions of the textures is allowed"

See the license for further details and FAQs. There are also a couple of nice tutorials for Photoshop that are worth checking out.

This is one of the best texture collections I've ever seen. Anyone need some model to be textured? I'm itching to do something with these.

Really an amazing site. Love the way everything is in categories, very easy to find what your searching for.

This site is absolutely fantastic. I couldn't believe someone puts out that kind of quality for free. It went frontpage at CGtalk when it was released. And for a good reason too. It is a place where I look first when I need a texture.
And to almost top the quality of the textures is the interface of the site. It is actually easier to browse them online than it would be to browse them from my hard-disk.

While you're at the site, be sure to look at the PhotoShop tute. Like he says "You'd never figure this one out, unless someone showed you". Very useful technique he's giving away. :-)

Regarding the tutorial: I have used the "blend if" feature in Photoshop before, but it's great that he makes it so easy to understand. I wonder, is there any similar feature in the GIMP?
