Mathias Pedersen's "Starry Night" Tutorials

boyeyes10renderoutput800df4.jpgMathias Pederson's "Starry Night", which Mathias revealed on the forums a little while back, is an amazing display of talent. The image alone is probably worth it's own post, but Mathias went a step further and put together three amazing tutorials on how he created this gorgeous image.

From the thread:

The image is based on the feeling of awe when one looks up into the big and beautiful night sky, full of stars. The mystery and wonder of life's greatness. The piece is starring this little redhaired boy, looking fascinated up into the huge sky - at that moment realizing how small we all are compared to the world, and universe, around us. I've experienced this myself, outside late at night, looking up into the big starry and cloudless sky. It's beyond compare.

Mathias's main site can be found here, and the tutorials can be found here. There are three intermediate level tutorials that cover Modeling, Textures & Materials, Lighting & Rendering, and finally Compositing, Adjustments & Final Touches. Mathias also has a beginner level tutorial on animating eyeballs using the Track To constraint.

Great tutorials, beautiful image.

Thanks (yet again!) for all the great and positive comments! Really appreciate it!!!

@CGguy: Actually, I've only been playing around with Blender for 1½ years, yet my earliest experinces with graphics in general reach back to about 4 years ago.

@Godwin: Pleasant surprise to hear from you here - I can proudly say I know you too! :D

Wow, that was really a fantastic piece of art! very artistic, emotional, and moving. I've been browsing obediently at the blender gallery and saw this one, which was at the time the darkest (I think) among others, and the most emotional I think. Whew! Just super.

    Great work, Mathias! *claps*
