Create a Painterly Effect using Geometry Nodes

0

This tutorial by Studio Roel Deden will show how you can convert any 3D model into a painterly style with a high degree of artistic freedom.

With this node setup you can create any model into a painting.

The brush strokes are being generated by random or grid distribution and the colors are determined by the Textures of the UV maps on your model. You can easily change the length and width of the brush and roughness and texture depth of the paint.

The unique feature here is to use a drawn curve to determine the direction of the brush strokes so you can get a nice flow in your painting. As you can see in the example, the brush lines are following around the eyes and mouth and follow the lines of the Clothing and shoulders.

If you're in a hurry, you can also purchase the ready to use node setup from the Blender Market.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
