Behind the Scenes: Feirinha da Revo

0

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone, my name is Renato Stegun, and I'm writing from Brazil. I'm an illustrator, and I have an illustration studio called Stegun Studio. I started studying Blender as a self-taught artist in the second half of 2020. At the end of 2022, I enrolled in a training course in Blender at Escola Revolution (Brazil) to offer 3D illustrations here at the studio.

INSPIRATION

The creation of this project emerged during module 3 of the course, where the mandatory theme was to create a scene from a fruit fair using subdivision modeling. So, I made the decision to create this scene exclusively inspired by my own cartoon illustration style.

SOFTWARE INFORMATION

Technical information about my final render:

  • Software 3D: Blender 3.4.1
  • Main Render: Cycles, 1400 x 1400px, 1024 samples
  • CAM: Perspective 30mm, FOV 61.9°, DOF 10m, F-Stop 1.3
  • Post production: Adobe Photoshop

PROCESS

During the production process, I brainstormed the idea and decided to create the character Mr. Pomme, an apple flying over the fair. I conducted research for references and created some 2D sketches to arrive at the final concept for the scene.

BLOCK-OUT

Based on the concept, I blocked out the scene, set the camera angle, and conducted some basic lighting tests.

So, I started the whole modeling process and little by little composed the entire scene that I had blocked.

I unwrapped the UVs, and the textures were hand-painted and procedural. I also used some setups with masks.

The entire modeling and texture process was done 100% with Blender, and some post-production adjustments were made with Photoshop.

I created a simple setup using Geometry Nodes for the floor and back wall.

Final lighting adjustments are shown below,
