Hi! This is my take on pwnisher’s Dynamic Machines community render challenge.
Watch the fully sized loop with sound on my YouTube channel here:
The creation process was loose, I tried really hard not to look for any inspiration and just come up with something that’s you know, me, which of course is impossible cause we get inspired by literally everything constantly. I had this idea to create a futuristic art installation from inside a museum or some rich person’s house, and just rolled with it. You can see progress renders gif here:
For the movement of the ball, I hand animated it. It would have been really hard to get a smooth animation through simulation with suspense and momentum like this. I also think that with hand animation you can give more personality to the ball, and pays off in the end.
For the electric discharges I used a custom made electric flare animation on a plane with alpha channels and used that plane in multiple particle systems on the ball.
I also hid a couple of really tiny details, which I think 99.99% of the people will never see, but hopefully some will :D
Used Blender, Cycles, of coures :), After Effects and Photoshop for visuals. For sound design I used Audacity and After Effects. It took me 3 weekends to finish it around 75 hours of work. Render time: ~8 hours on an Nvidia RTX 3070 laptop GPU.
This was a really fun challenge, I’m so happy I finished it and can’t wait to see all the renders. Good luck everyone!
