Cubekins Pilot Episode Animated in Blender and Unreal Engine

Brainy Pixel Productions is excited to announce the release of Cubekins, a 22-minute 3D animated series pilot for kids age 4-7. The Brainy Pixel Team used Blender and the Unreal Game Engine side-by-side to create this show. Cubekins is a wholesome small-town tale of a rambunctious seven-year old boy named Kip exploring his ever-changing world, while learning more about his never-changing God.

The unusual cuboidal characters were modeled in Blender and rigged using the Rigify addon. Initially a common base mesh was modeled in blender with the 51 shape keys required for the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) and was then modified to suit the proportions of each individual character. Hair was sculpted using curves with bevel objects.

The team used Rokoko motion capture systems and iphone-based face capture software to bring the Cubekins to life. Motion capture cleanup was accomplished in Blender using the AnimAide addon along with the keyframe. The animated characters were then exported to the Unreal Game Engine as fbx files and integrated into scenes for lighting and rendering.

The entire production was completed in 7 months with a small team of independent contractors. Cubekins has received the Dove seal of approval for all ages and has been entered in numerous short film competitions. We are very excited about the many advances in the workflow between Blender and the Unreal Game Engine.

Cubekins is now available to watch at www.cubekins.com, as well as on Vimeo, Amazon Prime Video, ChristianCinema, Redeem TV, and other streaming services.
