For people struggling with rigging: I've been working on a tutorial series called "Rig Anything with Rigify". Rigify is a free addon that makes rigging in Blender simple and fun.
You'll learn tools that will enable you to rig *any* character, no matter how complex or weird. Here are some of the creatures that we'll work on together:

First, check out the Series Intro:
The core of the series is free and consists of 7 chapters. More may be added later depending on people's interest (ideas are welcome!). I am also working on advanced content that will be available for purchase. More on that will be disclosed later.
Today I give you chapter 1 and chapter 2. Future chapters will be released about once per week. Keep an eye out.
Chapter 1 is for people completely unfamiliar with Blender armatures. Experienced users can skip this part (i.e. if you can set up an IK leg in your sleep don't bother with this chapter :) ). See also the blogpost for this chapter.
Chapter 2 is an overview of the Rigify Workflow. See also the blogpost for this chapter.
Next week we'll start using Rigify's prebuilt Meta-Rigs!

Looks pretty amazing, I just bought it!
Thanks so much for the support, Luis!
Please be patient as I work on the advanced stuff. If you have any questions, just get in touch! I just added a PDF with contact info to the package.
Great work Todor! Gonna keep my eye on this one
Thanks, Rombout! You've been very supportive from the start, appreciate it!
Looks like a very clever course. Congrats!
Thanks, I hope it will be useful!
I've always been terrified of Rigging, I'm going to check this out for sure:)
Rigging is intimidating for sure but give it a chance. Thanks to tools like Rigify it gets more approachable.
It looks like an exciting course. I am especially curious about how you did the 'floppy ears/antennas' of the alien. It's something I've never gotten the hang of in Blender so far.
This is actually pretty simple. The whole alien is animated with animation modifiers (mostly Noise and Built-in function(sine)). Each bone of the tentacle uses the same modifier with a slight offset.
I plan to have at least a quick video about that.
Bought it and looking forward to the complete course. Looks very promising!
Thank you very much, TAURELIUS!
Hi Todor!
I was just wondering, will you touch upon weight painting and how to rig a character with separate objects parented to the main body, and without merging everything together (for example a leg with trousers and shoes with laces, etc.)?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
weight-painting has been one of the most requested topics since I released the videos, so yes, I'll probably make a tutorial on it. But there is already a list of other things I have to record first so it
may take some time.
As for "how to rig a character with separate objects parented to the main body, and without merging everything together"
there is a little bit of that in chapter 6 of this series. I show how to parent the character's eye (which is a separate object) directly to a bone, rather than using vertex weights. And in the advanced videos I am planning to rig characters with props.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll add them to my list of ideas!
Hi Todor,
Thanks so much for your reply! That sounds absolutely fantastic. I have bought the course and look forward to all the future content you will be releasing.
Thanks for putting together such a fantastic course!
Best,
Christina
Thank you very much, Christina!
