A couple of tips back we looked at creating an outline with the "inverted hull" method, using a Solidify modifier with flipped normals. This technique is slightly different, though also using an inverted hull. However it gives more control over how "rough" the outline is, and you can make it move as well which can be a desired effect in some cases. Check it out!
