Hi BlenderNation! In this video I share seven ways to realistic composite CGI layers together to create a more realistic live action final shot. To create this shot I used Blender 3d for creating the computer generated imagery and I composited all of the layers inside of Adobe After Effects. I also used 3d models from these amazing 3d artists below. Check them out on blendswap.com:
- Chris Kuhn- 3d Helicopter
- Alexdark- 3d Carrier
Please let me know what you think and if you have any tips of your own in the comment section below! Cheers from Los Angeles California!

Thanks for these tips :)
I noticed one thing that gives away the helicopter being CG on first look, is that the landings are "loaded", means they are compressed like being on the ground supporting the weight of the helo. A Mi-35 flying would have the LG more "hanging" like so :

Note this happens on almost all aircrafts.
Sweet!!!
Nice! Thanks
There are plenty of styles which are available for special effects which look amazing and wonderful, but this style has to be recreating every month as it follows the new trends which are different from each other and complexes in looks. In changing the effects blender tool can be very much useful in special effects industry.
Hi Joseph - I co-run the Los Angeles Blender Meetup group and we'd love it if you'd join us sometime to talk about Blender in your artwork. Our next meeting is on June 22, details at the following link. Hit me up here or on Meetup.com if you'd like a brief speaker spot. https://www.meetup.com/Los-Angeles-Blender-3D-Meetup-Group/events/262016453/ - Stirling
