But I am still curious if Eevee will be renderable with high samples, and high resolution - and if so, what benefit will still be preserved in Cycles?
Eevee is not a replacement for Cycles, it's just a new rendering engine for situations where speed is more desirable than accuracy.
Eevee is never going to have accurate per pixel reflections, refraction, indirect lighting, SSS, etc, only an approximation of these complex lighting challenges. Cycles is a path tracer, which produces very accurate lighting calculations, and you'll just have to trust me when I say there are going to be situations where Eevee just can not replicate the results of Cycles without sacrificing it's speed advantage.
Cycles also has an unspoken advantage over Eevee, it's less work to setup a scene in Cycles compared to Eevee. Eevee is going to require mastering the art of placing light probes, and fiddling with parameters, like the resolution of shadow maps. No such need with Cycles, it's a pathtracer, everything is pretty much automatic because it's being computed 'the long way'.
Eevee is going to be useful for situations where rendering speed is more important than rendering accuracy, where 'a rough approximation of global illumination' is good enough, situations where hours of rendering per image isn't acceptable and what you really want is more like 1 frame every few seconds. Such as animations, or stylised art forms, or for previews of roughly what a scene might look like in Cycles.
But in my opinion, for photo realistic images, the only logical choice is Cycles. So, Cycles has a long life ahead of it.
Compare the best looking game against the latest Pixar movie. Some things are just not possible to do with a real-time engine (yet), even if all samples are put to the max.
Cycles is more realistic, and uses raytracing. Eevee uses game tech to aproximate this, so even if you use higher samples, you will lose some of your real life effects that Cycles supports. Such as real caustics.
This sounds like Eevee is really a replacement for BI, just a very quick one. Does that sound about right?
Except BI didn’t require a high-end graphics card.
OpenGL 3.3 was released 8 years ago. While a nice graphics card is recommended, even integrated Intel graphics support that version of OpenGL.
Not all. Intel HD Graphics 3000/2000(2nd Generation Intel Core Processors) support OpenGL 3.1
OpenGL 4+ is supported from the 3rd genneration.
Currently scroll bars are handy for touch device.
Don't you loose touch compatibility if you make them appears when you "move" closer?
Rickyx
They are always there, just not visible. So you can just drag like if they were there.
Does anyone know how to enable animation in blender 2.8 builds ?
Run ./blender --enable-copy-on-write
Hi Pablo, can I create animation with Workbench render engine only?
Absolutely.
Sorry, I'm using a Blender version 2.82a, but don't run Workbench, it stopped at frame 1... I don't understand :(
