If downloading and installing Filmic Blender is a bit too much work, then you can let Greg Zaal's nifty little add-on do the work for you :)
All this add-on does is add a button to let you download and install Filmic Blender from Troy's GitHub automatically.

Leave it to Greg to spend his personal time making life easier for everybody! The dude is a Blender Community Rock Star!!!
Thanks man <3
Tried this out. It's really great. I only wish that it worked for baking textures.
Will this addon be included in next official blender releases?
Not likely. It doesn't work properly for some OSX and linux users due to permissions issues.
First off, thanks so much for sharing Greg :)
I guess you can also include Windows 10 with the "permissions issues" :(
"PermissionError: [WinError 5] Access is denied: 'C:\\Program Files\\Blender Foundation\\Blender\\2.78\\datafiles\\colormanagement' -> 'C:\\Program Files\\Blender Foundation\\Blender\\2.78\\datafiles\\colormanagement_old"
And I did open the Command prompt as Admin, still...
A little tip from new user of Ubuntu for another users of Linux OS: if you downloaded Greg Zaal's addon, start Blender via terminal:
sudo blender
enter password and then install addon from file and click this "magic button" to get filmic addon.
thank you!
Lol, linux makes the usage of an easy addon very hard.
Why not make it an integrated part of blender?
It will be. Most probably it will be in 2.79.
Why do you say that?
I'm sorry if I don't get what this button is supposed to do... I already have Filmic Blender, so I didn't try it. This is an addon I have to download and install so that I don't have to download and install Filmic Blender manually? But instead manually download and install Greg's addon? What does it save or help me?
I didn't really write this for anyone else to use tbh, but it kinda went viral. If you already have filmic installed then you don't need this. All it does is download and unzip it to the right place.
Okay, then I got it right. I thought there might be some features in your addon not mentioned here like e.g. setting Filmic Blender already to some special default settings or whatever...
Presets for colormanagement settings would certainly be nice.
