Dylan Whiteman presents the CutAway Shader, a free Blender add on for architectural visualisation, model cutaways and more.
After 3 years in the making - I'm excited to announce the alpha release of the CutAway Shader - a free addon for Blender for artists, architects, scientists and engineers.
If you've ever wanted to cut away a cross section of a model, perform an architectural reveal or carry out some tricky special effects then this is the tool for you!
It works for still images and for animations.
The CutAway Shader can be used for:
- Model cut aways.
- Architectural reveals.
- Scientific and engineering images.
- Filming through walls (without damaging or re-dressing the set).
- Special effects (e.g. turning a winter scene into a summer scene).
- Wire frame to solid model transitions.
- ... plus much more!

Wow these images look very promosing. Sort of a boolean. Cant check the vid right now but will do it later for sure
wow it show and feels like slices from SU! looks really well done sir
So its sort of a clipping material which acts like clay renderer. It overrules all materials, thats quite inventive! nice man!
Nice tool! But i dont like the hollowed look of the cut. I like the cuts to be colored for example like this: https://img1.cgtrader.com/items/4113/3d2da39e1a/large/3d-model-cutaway-detailed-office-building-interior-scenes-3d-model-max.jpg

Hi Matin, thanks!
I like the rim filled look too. There are some controls on the CutAway Shader that let you show a rim if desired. checkout this section of the Shader Controls tutorial video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gip5qu3q3BA&feature=youtu.be&t=527
Cheers

Words cannot express how over-awed I am by your abilities. Further that you devoted 3 yrs to this supberb add-on and offer it to the Blender community for free. I'm relatively new w Blender so you are also an inspiration to those of us who grapple with this wonderful Blender program. Many thanks. Very grateful.
Thx guys for the feedback - It's nice to see the code out in the 'wild' after all this time!
Really awesome add-on.
