    • You can access a single vert by pressing shift-a and selecting "add singe vert."
      If this option is not there then its probably not the latest version of blender. You can download the latest version, or just add a plane and in vertices select mode delete three vertices of the plane. That will leave you with just one vert.
      ctrl+a is a shortcut that is used to increase or decrease thickness in the skin modifier.

    • You can't add a single vertex, but you can add a plane and delete the other three vertices. Or if you are working with a mesh already, press shift-d to duplicate one vertex by itself.

  1. Hey, nice Tutorial! The combination of single vertices and skin modifier offers a way better workflow than the one I used previously (simple trunk with branches glued at the sides), to get more freedom. But I have a little issue after subdividing.
