I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
Once more (like the alley scene posted a few days ago), I think one could do a lot better with Blender Internal (are render A LOT faster too). But then again your image would never be featured on BN if it was rendered using BI. Don't know why BF and BN are pushing Cycles sooo hard. Maybe cause it's the new 'thing' (actually not so new now). Just my 2c.
You're a little paranoid there - I don't care which renderer people use to create their images. More and more artwork is made with Cycles these days, so more and more Cycles artwork will appear here. That's all.
Maybe I am but could you please share the latest BI image feature on BN? When was it? And out of the latest say 20 featured images how many are rendered in Cycles Vs Blender Internal?
Let's try something. Create something good enough to be featured on BN with BI, submit it to Bart, and lets see if it gets featured. Case settled AND you end up with some nice artwork. :)
I was going to give it a rest but since you insist...

I'd really like to hear how you think BI would've been superior for this render, considering that he's trying to achieve a realistic result (and physics-based render engines like Cycles perform a lot better in that regard than BI). I think the image looks nice, the textures could've been higher-res (at least the wood texture on the tree), then again, that's got little to do with the render engine itself. The render time is pretty massive though, I'm pretty sure that could've been cut significantly... somehow.
Very nice render.
Like others said above, render time seems a little to excessive.
What is the hardware you used? Was it rendered on cpu or gpu?
Maybe there were some options in the render cue that was not in use that you
could of turn off to speed up render time. There are great tutorials out there to help
speed up render time. Blender guru comes to mind.
Wow, that's really quite beautiful. what kind of trees are they? The height of them remind me of loblolly pines which are prevalent where I live, but the bark doesn't match. I really like the ferns and the rest of the underbrush, too. the lighting is good, as is the persepctive. I'm glad I cliccked on the photo and opend it larger so that I could see the details and... the water is cut off on the preview. Nice job!
Nice job as usual Derek :) Only crit would be that it seems to lack depth. Some atmospheric effects, sun beams and all that crap, might help separate it into FG, MG and BG.

Nice, looks great
It looks great. Also looks like a good scene to use for profiling cycles and seeing where we can improve. This render time seems excesive to me

I think this is so because many artists switched to cycles.

I don't pay attention to wether it's made in Cycles or BI, so I don't have that information available.

Anyways, still a good render. Congrats!

That's quite a render time you've got there O_O

Thanks guys, I've updated the render a bit:) Greg always good to hear from you. Your comment made me laugh "all that crap" :)
Dude, your update looks much better.
