Students in Cachoeira, Brazil, are working on a 12-minute short. Adriano A. Oliveira shares their story and some of their work so far.
"Turminha Kirimurê" [Kirimure's Little Gang] is an animation short film under development by me and my students at Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia (Federal University of Bahia's Recôncavo). We are at the historical city of Cachoeira, 100km from Salvador, capital of Bahia state in Brazil.
The animation is a 12 minutes short film aimed to spread among children cultural and scientific information about the All Saints's Bay and its surrounds (thats what "Recôncavo" means). "Kirimurê" stands for the old indian name of this gig bay, the second biggest bay in the World.
In our film, a group of 4 kids ("turminha" is a small gang) is challenged to study the bay by their teacher, professor Jailson. As long as they lack good connection to internet in the poor country side, they use their old boat (called "Saveirão", as long as "saveiro" is a typical form of ship in the region), transformed into a rocket by the group little geek, to fly to space and directly access satellite connection. Finally on-line, the kids immerge into hiperspace and start to learn about the bay. Within the hiperspace ambient, we will show to audience images and interviews with real scientific researchers.
This is intended to be the pilot of a series of shorts. It is a fulldome format film, meant to be showed in the great planetarium we have here, at "Museu Parque do Saber"** institution. We also plant a 16:9 version.
The short is been develop in Blender and is going to be rendered in Cycles using Dalai Felinto's fulldome camera, that we helped with some feedback.
Our goal is to finish the project until next september.

Looks Great! I love it!
Nice and happy atmosphere in this clip. Good textures on the ship.
I am at São Paulo, almost 1700 km distant from Salvador, and this Brazil with beaches, coconut trees and 38 degrees of temperature is a Brazil that I only know by television.
Congratulations! Very promising!
