So that’s what happens if you only work with developer versions! :D
Turns out the color picker is only available in 2.70. And this shows just how long this new release is already in development (which is a good thing btw)! I really thought we had the value picker in 2.69 already. But no! Only in developer versions! To get it, have a look here: builder.blender.org.
But since I am compiling Blender myself (which I can only recommend), I never touch the release versions anyway.

This is just SO annoying all these great functions that are nowhere indicated in the program !!!
