A super cheerful and well executed Christmas video by by IS Design + Digital from Adelaide, Australia.
Ryan Stephens writes:
For the past five years Adelaide based studio IS Design + DIgital has been producing the annual Christmas video for local construction company Leed. These videos are short, quirky and usually give the studio a chance to experiment with new techniques. IS's newest designer, Nicolas Ely, having used Blender in the past on various personal and freelance projects, convinced the studio that this years video should be made in 3D.
All the models were built from scratch with Nick modelling the two hero models - the Excavator and the Bulldozer. These were rigged with working pistons, caterpillar tracks and wheels saving a lot of time with the animation.
IS Creative Director, Ryan Stephens, was responsible for the animation. Ryan has experience producing 2D animation but this project was his first using Blender. "I was really impressed with Blender, it has so many features and is quite intuative. I really feel we've just scratched the surface with what it's capable of."
The animation took the studio just over 100 hours to produce. This was over a period of six weeks with one week taken to develop the concept, three weeks for modelling, rigging and texturing and another 2 weeks for animation, rendering, editing and post production.
IS Design + Digital is a small team of talented creatives based in Adelaide, Australia.

Looks good. But I think this serves as another example of the need for some systematic (automatic?) way of determining the settings for cycles. The grainy texture works style wise for this video, but it doesn't for most.
It’s called “film grain”. Who says it was done in Cycles?
Unusual but very good.
Merry Christmas Ryan and IS Design + Digital team!
haha, nice one!
Wow, what a creative and fun way to do a Christmas song!
Good fun, I'd have liked the "grain" on this to have been animated. It was rather strange to see it fixed on the screen with the various elements moving relative to it. A lot of work crammed into 100 hours. Well done. Can't wait to see the re-render with some foley added to anchor the vehicles into the soundtrack. :) Happy holidays everybody.
