The screening is Friday the 28th, not the 29th. Also RSVPs are requested by ASIFA to attend. Exact details and how to RSVP will be posted very soon on http://www.meetup.com/Blender/Los-Angeles-CA/776902/ the Los Angeles user's BA thread and Facebook page.
Hope to see you there!
Sheesh, that's pretty stupid of me. Thanks for the heads up, I've fixed the text!
Congratulation to all members of blender foundation artists and community

Freakin' awesome! :D
Whoop! Excellent work team Mango!
blender forever!
Almost kind of scary. When big heads start turning, they have only profit in mind. What's that mean for the OS society?
Ptex and COLLADA were created by people working for "big heads," and they're free and open-source. Much of Blender itself is developed based on SIGGRAPH papers done by people who work at "big heads." Sometimes you can't forget that not everyone who works at Pixar or Weta is only after a profit, and how much some of those people in the business like to contribute to the advancement of digital animation and still love animation wherever it's found. Also, Blender's growing news in the 3D world. Maybe some are just curious in seeing just what the latest development of Blender can do towards this type of production. I know I am.
Besides, I don't think these people wouldn't be there to rob or profit from Blender or anything, considering that at least Pixar and Weta have already contributed so much to the computer graphics industry long before Blender 2.6 and some even incorporated into 3D packages like Blender (Catmull-Clark subdivision, anyone?). Pixar at least has been making their own tools and releasing some as FOSS long before Blender was even born, and Weta's no stranger to proprietary software, so I don't think the "OS society" is in any danger here. There's more threat coming from, say the likes of Autodesk, than Pixar and Dreamworks.
I don't doubt there may be people there interested in hiring potentials for their own company, but I think some of those people could just be genuinely interested in this interesting open movie because, well, it's neat. People made a near-Hollywood-esque movie with CGI elements, all created using free software. That's something I'd like to see.
Well said.
Not a long time ago Pixar opened it's amazing technology - Open Subdiv

So this is my plus to that there isn't all about money.
This is awsome. Maybe Pixar will ditch Marionette and start using Blender instead ;)
Probably Very Good Things. The people in the above list specialize in producing art, not paintbrushes. There's a good potential for synergy.
Best news of the day !
awesome blender rules
Greeeat guys! This is the secret of success. Work, work, work and work. Keep blending.
EGAD!!!!!
That is not all INDEED !!! Congrats. :)

Wow, awesome! Wish I could be there!
Haha, I actually pre-ordered the DVD that would come out of the mango problem. The only problem is that I don't have a dvd drive in my rig :/. Guess I'll have to go shopping this weekend.
nah, don't worry, you'll be able to download all that stuff later, keep the shiny disc mint & wrapped up, I keep all my BF/BI DVD's as collectables. :D
Very good news!!! I wait in anticipation to see the final version :)

maybe blender needs real CG enthusiasts to use it to make film/animations. it just doesnt look that good compared to CG used in the industry. dont get me wrong, this festival viewing will be..cute.
What an awesome birthday present! Thanks Ton. I'll definitely be tuning in on Wednesday.
