Blender Cookie announce their upcoming new Blender DVD: 'Compositing in Blender' by Bartek Skorupa.
Jonathan Williamson writes:
We've just announced pre-orders for our latest training series by Bartek Skorupa. Bartek is a compositing genius and is the author of the excellent Blender to After Effects exporter.
This series will not only teach you how to get great results through compositing, it will also teach all of the technical details that need to be considered with compositing. This includes image levels, image colors, color management, handling proper alpha values, green screen keying, and much more. You will also learn many techniques for managing your renders in a smarter way that enables to perform many changes and make finer adjustments without needing to render again.
You will learn advanced masking techniques, how to work with all of the different render passes and even how to make your own render passes. Beyond that you will also learn how to properly handle ambient occlusion, environment lighting, shadows, reflections, refractions, and more.

After 40 seconds I realized it was not a hiphop song in the background, but the trainer speaking (just had to say that LOL)
This Dvd looks very nice :)
Sound great but as I understand it the blending compositing system is changing a lot at the moment with all the new nodes, masking tools, etc. Will this include the upcoming developments?
Hi Nathan,
Most of the compositing changes being implemented are underlying system changes to improve the speed and memory management; very little is changing with the actual nodes or workflow. A few new nodes have been added but nothing that significantly changes this training.
Bartek focuses much more on the actual techniques, methods and knowledge needed to perform compositing rather than on specific effects. For this reason even if the nodes did change drastically there would still be exceptional value in this series.
Yeah, many of the new nodes just combine other node combinations to make it easier.
Congratulations, Bartek!
I'm not about the quality of this DVD.
The guy certainly knows a lot about compositing but the effects are far from good (realistic) too me.
And the Ferrari model is jagged as hell.
It was to show the compositing, so the model doesn't matter. I think with that scene he just wanted to show how to combine thee passes manually so you could change just the pass with the car's color (diffuse ?) and keep everything else.
Does the green screen work use the new mango nodes?
If not, that would be a no sale for me.
suggestion: Add a final chapter showing all the LATEST addiitions
in use!

Seems to be a good DVD. Sometime ago compositing was just an alien thing to me. But I understand it a bit more now, but it was a long process. I might take this DVD if it have good critics.
What would really interest me for now is that some makes a really good DVD on the BGE.
Sorry BlenderNation, you've made a little mistake here :-) This is not the right moviefile, this is part 8 of the tutorials "Creating a Realistic Head in Blender" by Kent Trammell , not the file about the training series of Bartek Skorupa.
What the... Thanks for letting me know!
