Mongrel FX studio in New York is holding "How to start in Blender" workshop on Friday, September 9th from 6-8pm, and also on Saturday the 10th at 11am-1pm. It will be great way to learn the basics of Blender with some real results. In this workshop we will be tackling the subjects of how to model, light, and render a pair of headphones. The skills you learn will create a strong foundation as you advance in Blender. The price of registration is $50.   1. I appreciate this kind of workshop. But i think, if the topics is more advanced, it will be more crowded :) There are already overwhelming number of tutorials on the web for newcomers to start in blender modelling, lighting and rendering.

  2. A tutorial on the web is not equal being trained.
    And there are still and always will be many entry level new users to Blender.

    And I agree with AnimaticoideX the I want stuff for free culture is getting too far.

    I think 25$ per day is really reasonable.

  3. AnimaticoideX, I think you mean gratis rather than free (as in freedom). And I think you're right. Not everything should be gratis. If I were in New York, I would definitely attend.

    When talking about software, I've been trying very hard to be careful with my use of the word free. I always use the word to refer to freedom rather than cost.

    With freedom of speech, we are at liberty (we are free) to speak. However, this does not preclude a great speaker from charging money to hear her speak. The same applies to free software. People have the freedom to use and share free software, but this does not mean it costs nothing.
