Potential is a stereo 3D short film, using blender for all of the modelling, animation and rendering (though some of the VFX are done in other apps). The film is being made by five New Zealand high-school students, and though the final released date for the film is TBA, you can follow them on facebook to get updates on the production.

Wow! Not bad! Although the jump from the robot at 0:36 wasn't that realistic(no bounce back up, remember Newtons 3rd law?), I really think this will be a good short file =) Good job!
Looks really promising! It really DOES have 'potential'!
Nice Preview, look promising :-)
Nice preview, looks promising :-)
looks nice and with "potential" :P.... but I hope it's not another terrible "falling skies" which is a mediocre TV show
The part that's impressive to me is the "highschool students" bit. I wish I had skills like that in highschool. "Potential" is an understatement.
Kids in High School made this...wow
Kudos for them
damn that looks like it has some potential
Looks amazing, i like the camera movements in the 3d composition, really great job.
Nice work guys!
Michael120...the bounce back you are looking for in the robot is not in vogue right now. I think that this is not an oversight by the animators. It's probably intentional. They are probably doing the Iron Man thing.
Way to go guys!!! That is SWEET!
wow, robo puppies in 3d! wow =)
no, seriously, seems like fun
This film has Potential to wreak Havok! Great to see you guys are still at it.
Thanks everyone for the feedback - it means a lot!
The robot related shows were somewhat crappy, lacking a lot of stuff especially in animation, anyway, overall the trailer was pretty awesome and I think it has a lot of potential indeed :D Good luck!
shots* ^
@Dread Knight: Anything in particular that you think is lacking? The film is still a WIP, so I might be able to get some changes made.
Very nice trailer! Is the actor and the film creator the same guy?
Looking cool guys. Good luck!
I think it's mainly the shot at 0.36. The robot landing and the following left-arm movement (why does it even do that?) stand out as pretty rough animation.
Even if the powerful hydraulic robot joints can take the strain, it would fall on it's face unless it compensated for the landing. A lot of forward momentum seems to just dissipate when it touches ground.
But other than the animation issues, the jumping shot is great. I appreciate the variety of camera movements for the robot scenes, and the composition work in general looks spot-on to me.
Those in the team who are specifically into animation should start devouring The Animator's Survival Kit ASAP, regardless of preferred animation style. A lot of the working techniques are outdated, but most of the content is gold. The DVD version is even better, but rather more expensive to buy.
The trailer sucks. It looks too amateur to even waste your time watching.
@encn: Ah yeah, I see the hand movement. I'll be sure to pass your feedback on to the animator. Thanks for the book recommendation also - looks like a useful read!
Looks fantastic but please, play another music than this one which is used in any conspiracy theory video on youtube and in the end it gets quite boring. Getting something different would make it more attractive in my opinion
@temudjin: Don't worry - we've just about finished composing an original score for the film :)
@Terrachild
Ah, I see....never seen Iron man anyway ;)
The film is now online - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1tvBJI4y2g
Enjoy!
