Ben Amend posted a quite interesting tutorial about how to use the Indirect Lighting function in Blender to design a day and night light setting. Besides the settings for the GI function of the Indirect Lighting tool he also covers environmental settings for a day and night sky.

This is very useful.
Thanks for the tutorial:)
Nice tutorial!
Wouldn't be the "Environment Lighing" better than lots of Area lamps for the night sky also?
with area lights you have control over local lights and keep the distance dark.
The day lighting looks pretty flat.
Maybe it would look better with materials/textures and more objects around for the light to bounce off.

he focuses on light setup not texturing in this mini tutorial ;)
