We just successfully held the first Blender classes for Maryland (I believe this is Colin's state). They were held at the Rockville center for the arts. This class was for ages 7-16. They were held one week as a summer course for digital arts. They were taught modeling (Loop Cuts, Extruding, Subsurfacing, Mirroring), animation (Keyframing, IPO curves), Texturing, Dynamics (Cloth Dynamics), and rendering. The class was really exciting and the students picked up so quickly with Blender.
It went so well that we'll be holding continuous classes from now on. We will be doing adult advanced classes also. Please inquire about those by contacting either Avery or Tim.
If anyone wanted to see some of the work they accomplished in the this 1 week summer camp that was June 22, they can go to: http://avenue209.com under the "media" menu item. Then choose the "educational" video.

looks great!
wish there was something like this in cambridge, uk where I live...
Sounds awesome..., i wish i was near enough to it but unfortunately am not.
( i'm in Algeria )
When I was a kid, we'd just draw a yellow circle with lines for the sun, a house with a triangle and a square (and add a lot of little pink hearts if you were a little girl).
Now they want to do it in 3D. We spoil our youngs 'nabits !
J/K. Always great to see kids have fun with Blender :)
sounds great...too bad such old coot like myself can't participate:D
but its awesome that kids can get in touch with blender in such an effective way,
thumbs up :)
This is great! I live in Rockville and have been looking/wanting something like this. I am 31 and can't participate but I am there in spirit for those that can. This goes to show how good Blender is.

Congratulations on your success! Classes are great, and it is good to see that they are being offered in more locations.
That is so great!! Congratulations! It's great to see kids getting exposure to Blender and 3D.
Awesome. :)
It's great to see! I just finished teaching an 8 week Blender course for gifted kids in New Jersey. You started them @ 7 years old? My minimum age was 5th grade, and even then, some kids had trouble keeping up. Were there separate classes for different age groups?
Jeremy:
Please contact me for more info as to how the classes were arranged.
I was wondering, how would I go about asking my community college to offer a blender 3d course?
They say that I would need to be able to show a market in this area...
Also, they would need text books for the teacher to teach out of. Is there a blender book made for a classroom setting? If so, what is it called?
Thanks. :)
Minifig,
I know that AB Tech in Asheville, NC teaches Blender. Also Kendall College of Art and Design of the University of Michigan. There are probably others. If you want to contact me at [email protected] I would be glad to put you in touch with the instructors at those schools. THey may be able to give you some ideas.
Just a note, our courses in Maryland can be found here:

I Live in NJ and have a 10 year old son who is working to learn the basics of Blender and loves it. I wish there was a class like this one in the NJ area so I could help him along. This is a great way for kids of this age to expand their thinking and express themselves. Please let me know if anything develops closer to NJ, we are about 3 hours from Rockville but I'm still cosidering it. Thanks, and keep up the great work.
