Blender, HipHop and Curry. Tonight in Lancaster, UK

15

Blender artist Sumit Sakar will be performing at The Dukes in Lancaster (UK) tonight at 7pm, where he'll be creating a brand new piece of 3D digital artwork before your eyes in a part performance, part club lounge setting.

Artist Sumit Sakar will be producing a 3D model on stage using Blender on Sunday Feb 8th at The Dukes. Moor Lane, Lancaster England LA1 1QE. Simultaneously he will be accompanied by Live HipHop and a Beat poet who will illuminate the aural space. Short work animations will also be shown. If that isn't enough to overload your senses, the artist's mother will be preparing fresh curry dishes for your consumption.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Yeh!
So, I'm not the only Blender, Hip-Hop head around here =D
    Thats phat!!

If u wanna to check some beats, holla back ;D

  2. Strange, but cool. :) It would be neat to model something live before people - especially if I got better at modeling before I did it. :P

  3. It's events like this that make me wish I still lived in the UK.

I'm curious as to whether it's a pre-concepted or if he's going from concept to final on the night.

  4. That's a very unique idea - I like it ... I'd love to know what the crowd thought of it and how it was received by the general populace, not just Blenderheads.

  5. If this'd been posted a day or two earlier, I mighta actually made it... But agreed with Sorbus: in London and I'm there in a heartbeat!

  6. Hello all,

big thanks to Lyle Walsh and Bart for putting this online, and apologies for not publicizing this here myself, earlier - a lesson learnt, seems like a good few of you would have made it up. There's never enough time to put together an event, and advertise it on all the proper channels, but will do better in the future

The night was really good, some utterly breathtaking performances by the er performers. And really enjoyed doing the live 3D thing.. we want to do it all again, maybe in Manchester, maybe London at some point?

It was a winning combination of things - film, live art, hip hop, curry.. People really, really enjoyed it.

I will try and get some of the video footage of the musical performances online soon, if they came out ok. It was a little odd at times creating artwork with such heavy, brilliant, demanding of attention prose, so I often stopped working so the due focus was given to the performances, and as such didn't get as much done my end as I wanted to, so I need to spend a little time finalising the piece and will put it online soon

    big thanks

    Sumit

  7. Boy I wish that I could have been there, sounds like fun. Reminds me of the greatest party I ever hosted in college - we sat around on the foor in a room with lots of black lights and used flourescent crayons and drew pictures on black paper while listening to loud rock. The Cheetos glowed too :)

Let us know if you are coming to the states!

P.S. If you haven't checed it out - tke a peak at the ananta exhibit site : http://www.lanternhouse.org/ananta/
Bart promises more on that soon.
