Russian Translation of Essential Blender in Progress!

9

A group of Russian Blender enthusiasts have picked up the task of translating 'Essential Blender' into Russian. As the content of the book has been released under a Creative Commons license, I'm actually surprised that we don't see more initiatives like this!

Gumanoed writes:

For last 3 weeks Russian blender community of blender3d.org.ua blender forum works to translate this great book for Russian speaking Blender users.

3 weeks ago PalSan and Ldir founded a page on b3d.mezon.ru wiki and clamed about project on all famouse 3D forums. Here are translators, correctors, illustrators and blender users, who use this not finished artikles to improve their skills.

We are doing our best to make russian edition of Essential Blender until 1-st of september!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I am doing a translation to French. The first draft should be done in three weeks time.
As the layout is not under CC license, it has to be redone which is almost as much time as the translation itself.
The screenshots all have to be cropped it seems, no small task either.
Parts of the book are totally outdated and must be re-written.

Well, maybe that explains why there is not more translations projects after all.

  2. isnt it easier and step over national pride and learn english? Now you have to translate every f****** book that will be published about blender.

  3. Not every book since few of them have an open license.

Also, there are quite a few people who just don't have what it takes, whatever it is, to learn another language. To my experience, most of them are English speaking. LOL

Funnily enough, my translation will still show the English text, followed by the French text, one paragraph at a time. It will be published in .odt, .doc and .pdf formats with the freest license I can find.

  4. cool! I would help out, but I can't type in Russian, I would proof read it considering my English is well, better than most Americans, and Russian is my first language
